Fashion, Photography, Cultcha! Getting Arty at the MFA

fashionface2

These pictures were taken in Boston's Museum of Fine Arts a few weeks ago, before I left for New York. My thirteen-year-old cousin Paige was visiting then, like she does every summer. Among our usual shopping and Starbucks trips, we decided to take in a little cultcha (er, culture) at the MFA. Though we went mainly for the Richard Avedon fashion photography exhibit, we also marveled over ancient Egyptian artifacts (those Egyptians sure knew how to accessorize!), 18th century French royal furniture (I could get used to those accommodations!), and my favorite paintings by Monet and Renoir. Still, the fashion snaps from the sixties - so mod, pop art and insanely stylish, featuring the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy, Brigitte Bardot and Veruschka - were definitely the highlight for me...

My camera's battery died before I got a chance to snap all the pictures that I wanted to, so I switched over to my mom's camera. (Hers had the date imprinting setting on and, had I noticed this annoyance, I would've turned it off!) Paige took over the lens for the rest of the day; I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with how her shots turned out. Maybe there's a fashion photog career in her future?

My dress is from Charlotte Russe (and, yes, Paige helped me pick it out!). Lately I've been pleasantly surprised by their selection... if you'd asked me a year ago, I'd have told you that I found their clothes too "teenage" for my tastes. But no longer! This black floral number is exactly the kind of ensemble I'd love to traipse around Paris in... perfect for a day of gazing at beautiful artwork and enjoying Summer's end.

Some people say that Boston resembles Paris in the spring and summer. I wish I could say that I agree! So I will simply have to visit Paris and compare notes... all in the name of research, of course.

I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't been to the MFA in years. And I really want to visit the Avedon exhibit.

I love your dress- it looks cuter (and higher quality) than I'd expect from Charlotte Russe!

Pretty pics! I wanted to see the Avedon show too- never made it. I wonder if it's on view still!?

Looks like fun, I love hitting up museums once in a while (not too often, I think I saw way too many as a child and was a bit scarred). That dress is very cute and not teenagery at all!

oh and about Paris, I still have to visit both Paris and Boston to make that comparison too! :)

I must say, I was impressed with Charlotte Russe when we popped together in that one evening a few months ago. I might have to stop in and see what they got in for autumn.

I will visit the MFA someday. I will. I will. I will!

Haha... obviously I meant ''popped in together.'' I have no idea what ''popped together in'' means ;)
