A perfect fall

It's a gorgeous sunshiny day, but like many of you, I'm already daydreaming about fall. Naturally, I took to Polyvore to design my dream cool-weather ensembles. Today's set includes the perfect dark floral dress (from Rebecca Taylor, no less), an Anthropologie cardigan (practically a fall staple in its own right), Miu Miu Mary Janes for a hint of Italian chic and, while we're at it, a Valentino bag... because, hey, if you're gonna dream, might as well dream big!
Who's that lady?

I hope this fall's throwback to seventies, ladylike-chic is here to stay. I'm loving the return of some Victorian, romantic favorites, too: lace, ruffles, riding boots and structured handbags. A dark floral-patterned dress could easily go from summer to winter (with the right opaque tights), while a slouchy cardigan in a deep crimson is perfect for the crisp Autumn air. The same cardigan could easily pair with a leopard-print mini to create a fun play on proportion. And for the topper? The season's quintessential add-ons: ruffles and lace. Pair with Miu Miu's prim Oxford-Mary Jane pumps, and the look could go from apple picking to apple martinis in no time flat. An animal print scarf ties in all the colors, and would perk up any neutral ensemble, like a few brightly-colored leaves against a gray sky. This scarf, from Mulberry, is only vaguely leopard; I like the subtlety and warm tones. Layering a lace shrug or adding a cute crocheted cap? Totally cute options. To toughen up the look (but only slightly), swap the sweet pumps for studded or lace-up riding boots. And don't forget your must-have autumnal accessory: a sumptuous tote, in a fall-colored pattern or neutral hue, ideal for the lady who lunches and the one who runs the office.

So, it's still a little early, but... What excites you the most about fall?

Variations of a theme

If you were to ever accuse me of being an "outfit repeater," normally I might gasp and swear, "Never!" But if you had caught me this past weekend, I would have been found guilty as charged.

What I wore Saturday...Dress, scarf: Kimchi Blue, Urban Outfitters
Tights: Target, maybe?
Boots: Kohl's, gift from Grandma
Necklaces: Tiffany's, vintage
And then Sunday...Faux fur jacket: Had it for so long I can't remember...
Sweater dress: Gift
Bag: Simply Vera by Vera Wang
Belt, tights: Loft
Boots: Report, Off-Broadway Shoes

Now my personal style isn't what I'd call consistent... I change themes, genres, decades on a daily basis. This is probably because I'm an "actress"; most of my outfits are "costumes." Lately I've been feeling really late seventies/early eighties, and that's been reflected in everything from my iPod playlists (Heart! Eagles! Journey! Bad Company!) to my sartorial choices.

This sweater dress/leggings/ankle boots combo has almost become a uniform of late. There's nothing much easier than slipping on a long sweater or tunic over leggings, then throwing on a scarf, belt, or faux-fur bomber jacket-- done! I've been in a purple-y mood lately, so I just happened to wear lilac-colored dresses two days in a row. Today I'm wearing a deep purple tunic! Guess I'm in a purple haze...

Happy harvest

I hope everyone is having a wonderful autumn so far and enjoying a safe, happy Halloween! Yes, I've been a negligent blogger of late, but 'twas a busy and fun-filled October. I've enjoyed the successful (sold-out!) run of my first local show, been working a little and sleeping a lot in an attempt at a health detox, have lived in the same worn-in skinny jeans for days on end (mmm!), have made frequent trips to my local farmer's market to stock up on honey and other healthy goods, and am blissfully awaiting the start of November and embracing the last days of autumn, hoping there are still many bright, colorful ones ahead before winter's frost settles in...

File under: Yum

Hi everyone! My apologies for taking a brief blogging hiatus. I'm in awe of you gals who manage to hold down full-time jobs and still take photos and post your outfits every day (amazing!). At this rate I'm only working part-time, but I've been finding plenty of things to keep me busy. For instance, I auditioned, on a whim, for a local theater troupe's musical production, and got in! (I harbor a not-so-secret obsession over musicals, and am practically kicking myself for not majoring in musical theater or vocal performance). The show is in October and rehearsals began a few weeks ago. Between this and work, I haven't been home much at all, thus my blog has been neglected. :( My apologies! I'll try to get back on track soon. Summer days are dwindling, but I have outfit photos that still need sharing. It might be warm for a few more weeks, so I'll post those new/old pictures soon! :P

But speaking of cooler days ahead... you should know that today is a very magical one. The Pumpkin Spice Latte is back for fall, and available at Starbucks as of today. Yes! It may seem pathetic, but I anticipate this day all year long. Forget 'back to school' jitters... I get 'back to Starbucks' joy! ;)
Mmmm.... Everyone go out and get one! Just don't trample the poor baristas; they work hard. Tip nicely! ;)

Photos, stories, and more random fun coming up... see you all soon!
